CM Gates & Barriers

Lewis Armit Appointed General Manager to Lead the Next Stage of Growth at CM Gates & Barriers

CM Gates & Barriers has appointed Lewis Armit as General Manager, giving him responsibility for leading the company’s operations and its next stage of growth.

The appointment comes as CM Gates continues to take on greater responsibility across its clients’ sites. While the company has built its reputation around automated gates, traffic barriers, access control and perimeter security, clients are increasingly asking CM Gates to support additional entrance and security assets.

Lewis will lead the phased development of these wider capabilities while continuing to raise standards across CM Gates’s existing operations.

Building on increasing client demand

For CM Gates, this expansion is being driven by the needs of its clients. As relationships develop, many Scotland-based facilities and property teams have asked whether CM Gates can support more of the assets across their sites. This includes areas such as access control, automatic pedestrian doors, roller shutters and other controlled entrance systems.

For facilities teams managing sites across Scotland, having decision-makers closer to their properties also makes communication, site attendance and issue resolution much more straightforward. This strengthens the demand for CM Gates to provide a more holistic service in facilities security.

The long-term goal is to give commercial clients one accountable, Scotland-based partner capable of supporting more of their critical access and entrance assets.

Rather than expanding into several areas at once, CM Gates plans to develop these services carefully. This will include investing in the right people, qualifications, manufacturer training, documentation and ongoing maintenance capability before each service is formally introduced.

Lewis will oversee this process while ensuring CM Gates’s existing gate, barrier and access-control services continue to meet the high standards clients expect.

More than 20 years of facilities management experience

Lewis brings more than 20 years of experience in facilities management, giving him a clear understanding of the pressures faced by facilities managers, property teams and site operators.

These teams are often responsible for multiple assets, contractors and compliance requirements across several locations. When something goes wrong, they need more than a company that can complete an isolated repair. They need clear communication, reliable documentation, competent engineers and someone who remains accountable from the initial conversation through to completion and ongoing support.

In his new role, Lewis will focus on:

  • Raising operational and health and safety standards across the business
  • Developing CM Gates’s directly managed, in-house engineering capabilities
  • Identifying the qualifications and specialist training required for new asset types
  • Improving accountability and consistency across projects
  • Strengthening communication with commercial clients
  • Expanding CM Gates’s planned and reactive maintenance capabilities
  • Ensuring clients receive clear service records and compliance documentation

Lewis said:

“Having worked in facilities management for more than 20 years, I understand how difficult it can be to manage several contractors across different assets and sites. Clients want someone who takes ownership, communicates properly and delivers the same standard of work consistently.

“We are already being asked to look after more of our clients’ access and entrance systems because of the trust we have built with them, so my focus will be on making sure we develop those capabilities properly, with qualified people, strong health and safety standards and clear accountability behind everything we do.”

Leading CM Gates’s next stage

Lewis’s appointment also marks an important change in the day-to-day leadership of the business.

He will work directly with commercial clients on new projects, service requirements, site challenges and opportunities to bring additional assets under CM Gates’s support. This will allow CM Gates Director Craig Manson to place greater focus on the company’s wider direction and long-term development.

Craig said:

“Lewis understands the facilities management environment and the standards our commercial clients expect. He is extremely focused on health and safety, qualifications, accountability and making sure work is delivered properly.

“We have reached the point where clients are trusting us with more of their sites and asking us to support a wider range of assets. Lewis is the right person to lead that next stage while protecting the quality and personal service that CM has built its reputation on.”

A long-term partner for commercial sites

The ambition is not simply to offer a longer list of services. CM Gates wants to become an even more valuable long-term partner to facilities managers, property managers and organisations responsible for complex commercial sites.

This means developing the capability to understand how different entrance, access and perimeter assets work together, while giving clients a clearer and more consistent way to manage installation, servicing, repairs and compliance documentation.

Lewis added:

“This is a long-term plan. We are not going to claim that we can do everything overnight. We will introduce new capabilities in a controlled way and make sure we have the right competence and support behind them.

“The opportunity is significant because the demand is already there. Our job now is to step up, invest properly and prove that our clients can continue placing their trust in CM Gates.”
